AJ's Back, Drivers test at Infineon, and Bobby's moving?
Lynne Tibbet
The Rant was fortunate enough to be at Texas Motor Speedway over the weekend for the NASCAR race and we learned a thing or two we can share with you:
- It looks like Los Gatos' AJ Allmendinger will be back in the Red Bull Toyota ride at Talladega. Mike Skinner has been subbing for AJ in an attempt to get the car qualified for some races. Skinner has been pretty successful at that, but Red Bull still wants AJ as its driver. That's good news for the local guy!
- It was kind of weird to see Kyle Petty pulled from his customary spot behind the wheel of the No. 45 car. Petty Enterprises wanted to try something new so they gave the ride to young Chad McCumbee for one week. As it turns out, McCumbeee was unable to qualify the car. That's the second straight week the familiar No. 45 car has not made the race. Not good for Petty Enterprises.
- Word is not official, but look for Bobby Labonte to be named at some point as the driver of the fourth Richard Childress Car for the 2009 race season. Labonte is already running for Childress in the Nationwide Series.
- NASCAR drivers Aric Almirola (U.S. Army Chevy) and Paul Menard (Menards Chevy) will test at Infineon Raceway on Wednesday, April 9. They'll be working with road-course veteran Chris Cook. The test is closed to the public, but we thought you'd be interested.
That's about it for now. See you down the road!
