Toyota again demonstrated it will be a major player during the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season on Tuesday at the final day of testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Toyota, led by Los Gatos native AJ Allmendinger, posted four of the top 12 speeds during the final test session. Allmendinger posted a speed of 185.752 mph, just behind the top speed of the day posted by Juan Pablo Montoya at 186.761. Montoya became just the third foreign-born driver to win a NASCAR Cup race when he took the checkers at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway last year.
Rounding out the top five speeds on Tuesday were Casey Mears (185.344), Kasey Kahne (185.217) and Reed Sorenson (185.058). Joe Gibbs Racing, which switched to Toyota in the off-season, had Tony Stewart 10th (184.603) and Kyle Busch 12th (184.451). Testing moves to California Speedway in Fontana Jan. 30-31, followed by Speedweeks in Daytona, which begins Feb. 4, culminated by the 50th Daytona 500 on Feb. 17.
Infineon Raceway will celebrate its 20th anniversary of NASCAR Cup racing in 2008 with the Toyota/Save Mart 350, June 20-22. Be sure and call today to secure the best seats in the house for this special weekend. Call 800-870-RACE or CLICK HERE.
