Wednesday Night Drags Results, March 19
More than 225 Northern California drag racers convened on the quarter-mile drag strip, March 19, for the running of the weekly Wednesday Night Drags at Infineon Raceway.
Napa racers clinched two final round wins with Nikole D'Adamo coming from behind to catch Chris Simas, also from Napa, at the finish line to take top honors in the high school division. In addition, Napa's Chris Elicock powered his 1969 Chevy Camaro to a big upset win in the Street division over pre-race favorite Mitch Gately of Petaluma, when Gately ran quicker than his 11.59 dial-in.
Other race winners include Benicia's Justin Kim, who became a first-time winner in the Sport Street class and Novato's Doug Love, who continued his winning ways in the Motorcycle division. Mark Scheuer of Santa Rosa celebrated his birthday by winning the hotly contested Jack Pot class with his 1972 Chevy El Camino. Rodeo's Doug McCay won the battle of the Ford Ranchero's over Frank Borruso, who red-lighted, to collect the big win in Comp Rod.
The next drag racing event at Infineon Raceway will be the Summit ET Bracket Drags on Saturday, March 22. Wednesday Night Drags racing returns to the Sonoma drag strip on March 26. Gates open at 3 p.m.; competition begins at 5 p.m. Cost is $25 for competitors, $15 for students with their high school identification card and $10 for spectators.
